The starting point for this comprehensive refurbishment project is two commercial ground floors, located in the heart of Ruzafa. After confirming that they met the necessary characteristics to convert them into housing, the first step was to carry out the corresponding change of use project to adapt them to residential use. Once planning permission had been obtained, the long-awaited construction phase could begin.
The commercial premises were symmetrical and already had a completely open-plan layout. This greatly simplified the refurbishment, as the architectural project envisaged distributing the social area of each flat as a single open-plan loft-like space. Elements such as the air conditioning through exposed ducts or the continuous micro-cement floors directed the design towards a fresh and modern style, while the original wooden structure maintained the balance, providing character and elegance.
Both apartments planned to locate the social area as soon as one enters the interior, in a large open-plan space connected to the terrace by means of large metal frames. The ability of these windows to fold like an accordion allowed the interior to be connected with the exterior, sublimely merging both spaces. In this area, the kitchen stands out as a differentiating design element, made without tall units and with a glossy turquoise finish. Through the terrace, the bedroom with en-suite bathroom was accessed, where the finishes and different shades continued to add a touch of colour and a unique character.
